What is eiderdown?
This wild bird lives in the Artic region, also it is extremely rare so it gives the most valnuable exclusive filling material in the world. It is a type of down feather, which is a soft and fine layer of the feathers located under under the bird's tougher exterior feathers. The female eider duck plucks the feathers off her chest into her nest in order to keep her eggs warm.
Down is collected manually from the nests (after the nestlings left it), so it can contain a lot of contaminations (for example: eggshell, plants etc). Because of this down can not be collected with machines, so these contaminations are removed manually. One nest gives around 20g of down.
